Paul E. Ramstad, 88, of 370 Savage Farm Drive, Ithaca, NY, died on October 13, 2006 at Kendal at Ithaca.

He was born in Minneapolis, MN, son of the late Otto and Otilia E. Ramstad. Dr. Ramstad received B.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Minnesota. As a research chemist at General Mills he was responsible for developing several new products. He first came to Ithaca in 1948 when he joined the Cornell Faculty as an Associate Professor. In 1953 he moved to Madison, WI as a research executive with Oscar Mayer & Co. Two years later he returned to Minneapolis where he was again employed by General Mills until 1965 when he became a vice-president of American Maize Products Co. New York City. At the time of his retirement in 1978 he was president of American Maize.

He was a member of the American Association of Cereal Chemists (past-president), The Institute of Food Technologists, American Chemical Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Alpha Gamma Rho, Sigma Xi, City Club of Ithaca (past secretary-treasurer), and the Ithaca Yacht Club.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta Ramstad, four children of his marriage to Jean Heffron (deceased 1987): John R. Ramstad of Canyon Country, CA, Julie C. Baldwin of Crystal, MN, William E. Ramstad of Tucson, AZ and Polly E. Ramstad of Skillman, NJ, three step-children, 12 grandchildren, two great-grandsons, and two great-granddaughters.  His brothers, Ralph and Philip of Minneapolis, MN, and Dean of Medford, OR also survive Paul.

The Memorial Service will be held Oct. 28th, 2:00 PM, in the auditorium at Kendal at Ithaca, Ithaca, NY.
