In his earlier years he had a stock car that he worked on and raced. He enjoyed fixing things (usually with success) and this carried over into the tearing apart and fixing of many items around the home. As a life long resident of Ithaca and Trumansburg he knew numerous friends and was helpful to many running errands for others when needed. James liked watching baseball and golf on TV with a great deal of his own commentary.
