Louise S. Akins, age 86, of 3075 County Rd. 139, Interlaken, passed away at Cayuga Medical Center on May 21, 2007.
Born in South Berlin, NY on March 25, 1921, Louise was a daughter of the late Howard E. and Helen G. (Simmons) Sargent.
After her graduation from Cornell University, Louise spent many years teaching at Interlaken Central School. Upon her retirement in 1975 she remained physically active with involvement in many activities and organizations. Louise was a trustee of the Interlaken Library for many years and also served as a trustee and secretary of the Interlaken Historical Society. She was also a reliable food pantry volunteer at the Interlaken Reformed Church.
Louise knitted countless numbers of sweaters and infant hats for charitable organizations, enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, working crossword puzzles, and researching genealogy.
Surviving Louise are her two sons, Peter H. (Constance K. Ged) Akins of Trumansburg, and Thomas C. (Karen) Akins of Boulder, CO; her daughter, Kathleen H. Akins of Ithaca; a sister, Gertrude Heinrichs of Glenmont, NY; a brother, Charles Sargent, of Baltimore, MD; two grandchildren, Sybil Akins and Alissa Akins; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her husband, of nearly 50 years, Robert E. Akins and a grand-daughter, Anisa Louise Akins.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 26 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg, NY, with Rev. Dr.
John Kotun officiating.
