Andrew M. McGovern, 88, died at Elcor Health Services, Horseheads, NY on June 30, 2007.

Born on December 20, 1918 in West Union, WV, Andrew was the youngest son of Dr. Andrew McGovern M.D. and Alice Gerkin McGovern.  Following graduation from West Union High School in 1936 and Notre Dame University in 1941, he accepted a position with the Ithaca Gun Company in Ithaca, NY.  On November 24, 1943 Andrew married Jule Conboy of Friendsville, St. Patrick’s Church, Irish Hill, PA.  In 1946 Andrew entered the US Army, serving in Japan until the time of his honorable discharge in 1947.  After returning home, he was employed by Graflex in Rochester, NY, where he retired from the purchasing department in 1982.

After retirement, Andrew and Jule relocated to Pine City, NY where he was a communicant of St. Peter’s and Paul’s Church in Elmira, NY.  He enjoyed stamp collecting, antiques, and was very proud of his Irish heritage.  Andrew was a generous supporter of his alma mater, Notre Dame University.

Andrew is survived by a niece, Mary Alice McGovern of Spokane, WA.

In addition to his parents, Andrew was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Jule, who passed away on June 13, 2007; his infant son, Andrew; and his brothers, Hugh and Henry. 

A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2007 at St. Patrick’s Church, Irish Hill, PA with Father Cas Stanis officiating.  Prayers of committal will immediately follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
