DeeDee BowersDemaris E. “Dee Dee” Bowers of 163 Iradell Rd., passed away at Cayuga Medical Center on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the age of 47.

Born in Barberton, Ohio on May 1, 1962, Dee Dee was the daughter of Solena (Owens) Bowers of Ithaca and the late C. Harold Bowers. She attended the Trumansburg schools, graduating from the Charles O. Dickerson High School in 1979. Dee Dee enjoyed the friendships made in school and through her position in the bakery department at the Trumansburg Shursave. She enjoyed listening to music, cooking and being outdoors. When it rained Dee Dee rushed outside to feel the cool, wet drops on her face as she searched for the biggest and best mud puddle to jump in! Green was this child-at-heart’s favorite color and no flower turned her head like a Bird of Paradise. The center of Dee Dee’s world was family. Her shoulders never failed to provide comfort to family or friends, and Dee Dee’s caring hands were always extended to help another back up on their feet. It was in this selfless spirit that her eyes were donated to two small children. Through this beautiful gift Dee Dee will continue to light the way for others.

In addition to her father C. Harold Bowers who passed away on December 14, 2002, Dee Dee was preceded in death by her husband Theo W. Knopf on December 29, 2000 and Uncle E. Bud Owens on September 27, 2009. She is survived by her mother Solena “Sally” Bowers of Ithaca; one precious daughter Cassie Bowers of Ithaca; two brothers, Denny (Karen Knapp) Bowers and Chip Bowers of Trumansburg; two sisters, Cinda Bowers of Trumansburg and Jolene (Jerry) Kessler of Menno, SD and many nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends from 6-8 pm on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg.
