Douglas R. Carey of 3430 Agard Rd, Trumansburg passed away at Cayuga Medical Center on Sunday, October 31, 2010.

Born on April 19, 1933 in South Montrose, Pennsylvania, Douglas was the son of Ellsworth and Helen (Lowe) Carey. Following graduation from high school and the completion of college coursework Douglas served in the US Army, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1955. He proudly trained and served as a volunteer fireman in both the Montrose and Hillcrest Fire Departments. Throughout his many years in Binghamton he worked at the Children’s Home. After moving to Trumansburg in 1985, he later accepted a position with Hi-Speed Checkweigher Co.

In addition to his parents, Douglas was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce Carey of Montrose, PA. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn (Hopkins) Carey of Trumansburg; children, Bonnie (Brian) Ouellette of Endicott, Ted (Therese) Carey of Lisle, Amy L. Carey (Bob Buford) of Austin, TX, and Paul (Karoline) Carey of Weaverville, NC; grandchildren, Matthew, Holly, Christopher, Zeek, Aliza, and Dylan, and a great-grandson, Kaden.

A Memorial Service will begin at 2:00 pm on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at the Trumansburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Losey officiating.
