Earl A. ChaseEarl Allen Chase of 767 Hayts Rd., passed away at Cayuga Medical Center on Friday, March 26, 2010 at the age of 87.

Born in Trumansburg on February 8, 1923, Allen was the son of Warren and Leslie (Allen) Chase. Growing up on the family farm, he developed an appreciation for the outdoors and understood a long work day. Allen graduated from Cornell’s School of Agriculture prior to entering the US Army on February 21, 1945. He served in the Headquarters 3119th Signal Service Battalion during WWII, receiving an Honorable Discharge, with the rank of Technician Fourth Grade, on November 25, 1946. Following his discharge, Allen proudly served his country in the US Army Reserves for approximately 20 years. During this time he continued to care for the family farm, including the many adopted cats and held a position in the maintenance department at Cornell.

Allen was a member of the Trumansburg VFW Post #5498, the Arthur E. Bouton American Legion Post #770 in Trumansburg, the National Rifle Assn and the Enfield Grange.

In addition to his parents, Allen was preceded in death by a brother Burr Chase and a sister-in-law Margaret L. Chase. He is survived by one brother George Chase of Jacksonville; one sister-in-law Margaret “Peggy B” Chase of Ithaca; six nieces, Ann Lynch of Enfield, Pat Lilly of Ithaca, Virginia Sanford of Georgia, Kathryn Chase of Enfield, Nancy Chase of Jacksonville and Lynn Chase of Richmond, VA; two nephews, Bill Chase of Texas and Rick Chase of Enfield and several cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers who helped Allen over the past few years.

 A Graveside Service, at Grove Cemetery in Trumansburg, will begin at 12:30 pm on Friday, May 28, 2010 with the Rev. Dr. John Kotun officiating.  A Military Honors Tribute will be performed by members of the Trumansburg American Legion Post #770 in recognition of Earl’s service in the US Army.
