Dolores M. HendrixDolores Hendrix (Dee) has moved on through the journey of life on January 4, 2010.   She believed that death was just one more adventure, something to look forward to.

Dee was a true community leader.  She was very active in the First Presbyterian church, serving as a Deacon and elder, with the food program, and Red Cross.  Dee was a leader in the Gem Shop, She started a program at Meadow House to help the disabled to be active in the community to learn to lead productive lives within the community.  While working at Lake Side as a recreation supervisor she was instrumental in the development of the kitchen band as well as the Lakeside Bazaar. Dee was active in the auxiliary for the Fire Department, and a member of the American Legion.  During the war she started a teen center so that the kids who had father’s, brothers and boy friends and husbands  serving our country could get together after school and share concerns.  She believed in people and was always willing to lend a helping hand to others.  She enjoyed playing cards with her friends and going to the casino.  Dee enjoyed going down to Taughannock to sit by the Lake and read.  She served on the Board at Juniper Manor, active with the senior citizens, worked on the polls during elections and the CROP Walk.

Dee was an entrepreneur, owning two antique shops, one in Jacksonville as well as in down town Trumansburg.  She also ran a gift shop out of her home many years ago. While her children were young, she ran a Day Care so that she could be at home when her own children came home from school.  Her family was very important to her.

She was survived by her loving children Dane (Carol) Hendrix, Diane (Dee Dee) (Joe) Collazo and Debbieanne Hendrix. She had 6 loving Grandchildren, Dane Hendrix( wife Nicola Hanna)  Heidi Collazo, B.J. Nelson (Joe) Danielle Collazo( husband,David Shultz),, Nikki Hendrix(fiancé Seth) and Jennifer Hendrix(Fiancé James).   She is also survived by 4 great grandchildren, Ashley Collazo, Alexander Nelson, Nikolas Nelson,and Torre Hendrix as well as two very special cousins Sharon Fornicari ( Liz Harvey life partner).

Dee was predeceased by her loving husband Donald Hendrix, and Parents Nicholas and Ruth Torre.

The family will be present to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Friday, January 8, 2010 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg. A Memorial Service will begin at 11:00am on Saturday, January 9, at the First Presbyterian Church of Ulysses, 69 E. Main St., Trumansburg, with the Reverend Cheryl Peeples officiating.
