Elizabeth Major, of Trumansburg, NY, formerly of Binghamton, NY and Horseheads, NY, celebrated her final birthday on Nov. 18th, and passed from this world on November 29, 2010, with the love and respect of her family.

Elizabeth was born in Binghamton in 1916, daughter of Stanislaus and Sabina Poplawsky. She took great pride in her home, children and grandchildren.  She sold real estate in Horseheads for many years, along with taking various educational courses to further her personal interests.  Elizabeth was there for all her grown children when needed throughout the years.  She loved watching the New York Yankees play baseball on television, and in later years this became a rite of passage on opening day at Yankee Stadium.  She also worked very hard on each voting day for many years, taking much interest in her involvement with getting out the vote.

She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Joseph Major, and her son Joseph M. Major of Endwell, N.Y. She was also predeceased by her sister, Julia Pierce, and brothers, John, Stanley and Alex Poplawsky.

Surviving are her beloved son Thomas Major and wife Marie, of Trumansburg, NY, and daughter, Joan Gilbert of Binghamton, NY. She is also survived by her youngest sister, Bernice Meazler of Binghamton; grandchildren Deborah and David Conklin, Willington, FL, Patricia Major, Rochester, NY, Stephen and Cheri Major, Homer, NY, Lisa and David Wenz, Cortland, NY, Jeffrey Wheaton, Homer, NY, Jacquelyne and Jerry Bucinell, Vestal, NY, Valerie and Alan Gloger, Leesburg, Va, Melissa and Jamie Gatch, Jacksonville, NY, Karen and Eric Murphy, Trumansburg, NY, and Thomas and Beth Major, Burke, VA; great-grandchildren Bryan and Caitlin Conklin, Stephanie Bullock, Christina and Laura Major, Dylan and Trevor Wenz, Josh and Matthew Wheaton, Amanda and Brooke Bucinell, Natasha and Matthew Gloger, Amanda and Alex Gatch, Sabrina, Hannah, and Sarah Murphy, and several nieces and nephews.

We shall greatly miss her dignity and pride, along with her offhand remarks which threw all of her family into gales of laughter.  God will have his hands full when she arrives.
