John ShulerJohn Shuler of 4050 N. Shuler Road, Alpine, passed away at Seneca View in Montour Falls on Thursday, July 22, 2010, at the age of 93.

John was born November 7, 1916 in Alberta, Canada to the late John Shuler, Sr and Charlotte Kaufman. In childhood, Johnís love of the outdoors was evident as he learned to hunt, fish, and trap. He farmed the family homestead where he lived for 90 years. He retired from Tompkins County Hospital where he worked as a carpenter and a mason.  

John entered the US Army in February of 1942, serving in WW II receiving a Purple Heart and Honorable Discharge.  He served as a volunteer fireman with the Mecklenburg Fire Department, was a member of the Mecklenburg United Methodist Church, the Odessa American Legion Post #676 and the Watkins Glen VFW Post #2674.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Mildred, on July 10, 2010, and two sisters, Katherine Galneau and Ruth Shuler. He is survived by two daughters, Janice (Ryan) Oshiro of Kauai, Hawaii and Colleen (Evan) Shuler-Eisenberg, of Ithaca, NY,  two sisters, Margaret Wykoff of Las Cruses, New Mexico and Julie Ball of Baldwinsville, NY.
