Marguerite G. SmithMarguerite G. Smith of 8050 Falls Road, Trumansburg passed away at home in the loving presence of her caregivers of 11 years, Lee and Eileen Scott on Monday, June 14, 2010, at the age of 95.

Born on January 8, 1915 in Ithaca, Marguerite was the daughter of Mervyn C. Schroeder, Sr and Nellie (Jenks) Schroeder. A farmer throughout life, Marguerite was involved in 4H as a child and, gleaning knowledge from family and fellow farmers she hauled cattle, raised crops, harvested impressive vegetable gardens, and tended magnificent flower gardens to the envy of neighbors and friends. With a lawn mowed to estate-standards, Marguerite enjoyed entertaining in her home, spoiling guests with a mouth-watering, home-cooked meal. She also took pleasure in sewing and reading a good book. She worked at Cayuga Medical Center for many years, was a member of the Ulysses Grange #419 and served on the board of directors of Hayts Cemetery in Ithaca.

In addition to her parents, Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband Charles Bill Smith on February 20, 1993; one brother Mervyn, Jr and three sisters, Gertrude Emerson, Evelyn Miller and Eunice Beardsley. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins; good friends Steve and Sheryl Manciocchi; a very close friend Marian Miller and her two faithful dogs, Zoey and Bear.

The family will be present to receive friends from 1-2 pm on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St, Trumansburg.

Graveside Services will begin at 2:30 pm on Thursday at Hayts Cemetery in Ithaca.
