Robert L. UsherRobert L. Usher, Jr., of 5181 Searsburg Road, Trumansburg, passed away at the Groton Nursing Facility on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at the age of 83.

Robert was born in Reynoldsville, NY on September 5, 1926, the son of Robert L. Usher and Anna Bush Usher.  Following high school, Robert enlisted in the U.S. Navy on August 25, 1944. He served in the American and Asiatic Pacific Theatres before receiving an Honorable Discharge on March 20, 1946 with the rank of Fireman First Class.

After putting in a full day at the Seneca Army Depot as a Security Guard, Robert could often be found working in his sawmill. Resulting from his appreciation of the outdoors through cutting wood, hunting, fishing and camping he was able to identify every species of tree in the forest. A lifelong resident of Trumansburg, Robert developed many friendships through his membership in the Searsburg Church, the Searsburg Grange, Camping-Hiking Club, and the 49 Club. He also enjoyed working with the children as a 4-H leader.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by one sister Mary Frith and two brothers, George and Bill Usher. He is survived by his wife Paulena McCombs Usher; three sons, Gene of Aiken, SC, Douglas of Bonney Lake, WA, and David of Trumansburg; one daughter Arleeta Karz of N. Lauderdale, FL; one brother John Usher of Felmouth, VA; two sisters, Shirley Champion of Reynoldsville and Pauline Golez of Wheatlin, WY; six grandchildren, Robert, Kevin, Brian, Michael, Kristina, and Andrea; 15 great-grandchildren, Ashley, Tommy, Emily, Phillip, Brendon, Stephany, MacKinnon, Caleb, Abigail, Cody, Brittany, Mica, Elisa, Jacob, and Hallie and several nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends from 10-11 am on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at the Searsburg Church. Services will begin at 11:00 am on Tuesday, at the church. Prayers of Committal will follow at the Cronk Cemetery in Trumansburg.
