Kurt A. VogelOur loving son & brother, Kurt Vogel died on August 22nd at the age of 36 in Ithaca.  He was born in Buffalo and lived in West Virginia where he developed his athletic skills and his love for basketball.  His family moved to Trumansburg when he was in 5th grade and he graduated from Trumansburg High School in 1992.  He and his teammates provided a lot of excitement and enjoyment for the local basketball fans.  He graduated from SUNY Fredonia with a love of reading & learning.

He spent many years working with his family helping to maintain apartments.  One of his passions was working with the Prisoner Express Program through Cornell University which he did for many years.  He would meticulously read the prisonerís letters,  fill their book requests (often buying them himself) and send the package with a handwritten letter of encouragement.  He often sent about 200 packages a month.

Kurt spent all of his adult life trying to be kind and helpful to others and his views about love and world peace were passionate.  Kurt explored the teachings of many eastern philosophers.  He was even fortunate enough to have traveled to India in his early twenties.  He walked many miles in his short life and would want to be remembered for his belief that everyone should work together and support each other.  He loved playing with children and his family will always remember his playful spirit and sweet nature.

He is survived by his parents, Alan & Marilyn Vogel of Trumansburg, his sisters Cori Vogel (Andrew Moore) and Emily Vogel (Paul Wu), a niece Orion & nephew Ozzy, and numerous aunts & uncles & cousins.

There will be a memorial gathering remembering Kurt on Friday, September 3rd at the North Point Pavilion, Taughannock Park from 4:00-7:00 pm.  There will be an opportunity for people to share stories or memories of Kurt.  For more information call 607-387-3717.
