2017 John, Elinor R. March 17

Elinor Randall John of Ithaca passed away peacefully at Hospicare in Ithaca on Friday, March 17, 2017 at the age of 82.

Elinor was born on Long Island on August 9, 1934, a daughter of the late Ernest “Pete” and Marion (Benjamin) Darrow. She played an active role in raising her four children on Long Island with her husband, Rod Randall. Elinor was a Girl Scout leader for many years, served as PTA President, and participated in the Fresh Air Fund for 10 years.

While living in Ithaca, Elinor worked for Family and Children’s Services for 13 years, serving the last 8 years as the Director of Administrative Support Services before retiring. Elinor was an active member of the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

Elinor is survived by four children, Thomas Randall, Mary Lou (Vincent Durante) Cloutier, Terry (Alan) Tallman, and Jeffrey Randall; two step children, Wesley (Maureen) John and Karen (Matthew) Armstrong; five grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Elinor was preceded in death by her first husband Roderic Randall, and second husband, Bruce John.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on April 1, 2017 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Ithaca. Burial will be private in Danby Rural Cemetery.
