A. “Mac” Mcglaughlin, Carl Ii

d. October 8, 2005

Carl A. McGlaughlin, II, age 55, of 3742 Cayuga St., Interlaken, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 8, 2005 at his cabin in Prattsburg, NY, where, like many times prior, he and his family were spending the week-end making cherished memories together.

Born in Wheeling, West Virginia on June 23, 1950, Mac was the son of Carl A. McGlaughlin, I and Mary Lillian Kaminski McGlaughlin. Mac served in the U.S. Navy in 1968 and received an Honorable Discharge. In March of 1972 he accepted a position with the Ithaca Police Department, retiring in April of 1992. Mac enjoyed his work as a Police Officer and always appreciated the close friends he made while in the department. He was very active in the IPD "Cops, Kids & Toys" program, even after retirement from the IPD. Mac would do anything to help a child and took a position as a bus driver with the South Seneca School District just to be close to children. He was also a substitute teacher with SSSD for many years, connecting with countless students in a way that only Mac was capable of. Many area children were fortunate enough to have traveled to New York City or Toronto to enjoy a baseball game with the help of Mac and the PBA. Mac enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. His absence will leave a void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Mac deeply enjoyed the outdoors whether it was hunting, fishing or taking his family on another adventure-filled camping excursion. A great deal of his leisure time was also devoted to rebuilding classic cars and showing that shining, reborn classic at the next available car show. Mac's passion for automobiles was also evidenced by his "Charter Member" status in the Generations Corvette Club of CNY and his title of Captain of the 50th Anniversary WNY Corvette Caravan. Mac also worked for Charlie's Towing in Newfield which conveniently placed Mac in the driver's seat of a large tow truck, parked on the infield of the Watkins Glen Race Track during many NASCAR races over the years.

At an early age, his grandfather gave Mac the name "Butch" and it stuck. His entire family knew him as Butch. (Unless he was in trouble, then it was Carl.) He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian in 1983. Butch is survived by his father, Carl A. McGlaughlin, I of McMechen, WV; his devoted wife, of 35 years, Cindy Haberfield McGlaughlin of Interlaken; two daughters, Allena (Kelly) Wagner of Spencer and Jodie (John) Crowley of Rochester; one son, Jeffrey (Angela) McGlaughlin of Syracuse; one son-in-law, Donald Wagner of Enfield; two grandchildren, Kiernan and Kaitlin Crowley; one sister, Sandie (Glen) Paluso of St. Clairsville, OH; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and his faithful companion, both at home and on the road, Lady (who is more human than dog.)

The family will be present to receive their friends at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg on Wednesday, October 12, 2005 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm.

Services will be held at the Interlaken Reformed Church, 8315 Main St., Interlaken on Thursday, October 13, 2005 at 11:00 am with the Rev. Derek N. Vande Slunt officiating.

Prayers of Committal will follow at the Lakeview Cemetery in Interlaken with a Military Honors Tribute.

Contributions in Mac's memory may be directed to the Ithaca Police Department, ATTN: Mike Koval, "Cops, Kids & Toys Program", 120 E. Clinton St., Ithaca, NY 14850.
