Alan H. Grant

Alan H. "Abie" Grant, of Interlaken passed away at Cayuga Medical Center on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at the age of 79.

Born in North Tonawanda, New York on June 18, 1929, Alan was the son of the late William and Pearl (Bilson) Grant. At the age of 12, he and his family moved to their family farm in Lodi Center. On October 10, 1950, Alan married the love of his life, Shirley Jane Wiedmaier and moved to Interlaken. He worked for Pritchard's Garage in Interlaken before working as a security guard for 16 years and custodian for 9 years at Cornell. Alan retired on June 17, 1992 after 25 years of service.

In his leisure time, Alan enjoyed photography, tinkering and fixing anything. He spent much of his time outdoors gardening, mowing his lawn, traveling, fishing and camping. Alan also loved spending time with his six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Alan is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Jane Grant; one sister Carol Warne of Ovid; two daughters Deloris (Dana) Bevins of Trumansburg and Doreen (James) VanVleet of Lodi; one son Darrin Grant of Trumansburg; six grandchildren Gregory and Matthew Bevins, Randy and Nick Scott, Christa and David Grant; four great-grandchildren Chloe, Ransom, Hunter, and Payton; and his beloved cat Hannah.

The family will be present to receive friends from 6-8 pm on Thursday, March 5 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg. Funeral Services will begin at 11:30 am on Friday, March 6 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home with Father John Tokaz officiating.
