Albert L. Hughes

Albert L. Hughes of Trumansburg passed away at Schuyler Hospital on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the age of 91.

Al was born on May 25, 1925 in Willow Creek, a son of the late Lewis and Iva (Sutton) Hughes. After graduating from Ithaca High School, Al joined the United States Army and honorably served his country during World War II from 1943 to 1945. Al was employed by the Trumansburg Central School District for 26 years and worked as the head custodian until his retirement in 1987.

Al was very patriotic and remained very active spending time outdoors and remodeling his home over the years.

Al is survived by five children, Lois Hughes, Virginia Cirillo, Albert Hughes Jr., Geoffrey (Diane) Hughes, and Russell (Kathleen) Hughes; three grandchildren; a brother, William (Esther) Hughes; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, Augustus, Abram, and Walter Hughes; and three sisters, Pauline Livingstone, Helen Hughes, and Lillian Carr.

The family will be present to receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00pm on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation be made in Al’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
