Alice Mary Holtkamp

May 17, 1924 — March 31, 2025

Trumansburg

Alice Mary Holtkamp passed away March 31st at her home enveloped in the love of her four children. She wanted to reach the age of 101 but was just short.

Born May 17, 1924 at the Stork’s Nest Hospital in Los Angeles, CA, she graduated from the University of Southern California Nursing School in 1947. There, she met and married the love of her life, William H. Holtkamp of Trumansburg, where they owned and operated the Cayuga Inn. Alice was the creative force behind the menu at the restaurant and spent many long, hard hours working alongside her husband. They took a break from the restaurant to make two trips to Northern Europe to explore their roots and visit relatives.

Alice’s true passions were her children, nature, the creative arts, and helping others. She had an amazing talent for being able to fix anything from a broken toy train to an orphaned duckling. After caring for her husband during his fight with ALS, she devoted her time to her family, friends, gardens, pets, the Ulysses Historical Society and the Lifelong Gift shop. Alice received the President's Volunteer Service Award from George W. Bush.

Alice left this world with a legacy of kindness, warmth, generosity, strength and subtle wit. She is predeceased by her husband William H. Holtkamp; and her granddaughter Katrina Haskins.

Alice is survived by her four children, Julianne Farnsworth, Christine Holtkamp, William G. Holtkamp, and George Holtkamp; 4 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held on April 19th at Grove Cemetery. Donations in her name can be made to the Tompkins County SPCA, 1640 Hanshaw Road, Ithaca, New York 14850.
