Allan F. Buddle

Allan F. Buddle, of Interlaken, passed away at home surrounded by family on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at the age of 77.

Allan was born in Cooperstown on February 27, 1942, a son of the late Frank and Dorothy (Oakes) Buddle. He earned his bachelor❜s degree in engineering from Syracuse University and was a NYS Professional Engineer. From 1965 to 1971, Allan honorably served his country in the Army National Guard. While in the National Guard, he was employed by the Finger Lakes Park Commission. He then provided consulting services in Rochester before taking a position as a civil engineer for the Department of Environmental Conservation specializing in Flood Plain Management throughout the Southern Tier.

Above any other job, Allan loved being a farmer the most. He grew cherries for 17 years, selling them each summer to a seemingly endless stream of customers. Once the cherry orchards were gone, he raised organic beef cattle. He was especially proud of his Belted Galloways. For 29 years, Allan had a pair of Belgian draft horses, Luke and Lady. Carriage rides were a highlight for many area brides and visitors to the farm.

Allan was the founding President of the Backbone Ridge History Group. The BRHG explores and documents the history of the hill country that stretches between Seneca and Cayuga Lakes. Last October, Allan was honored to receive the Seneca County Historian❜s Award for ‶tremendous contributions to the advancement of Seneca County History, especially that of the Backbone Ridge area″.

As a descendant of Revolutionary War soldier Thomas Van Horne, Allan proudly belonged to the Sons of the American Revolution. Thomas Van Horne served in the Tryon County Militia.

Allan is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Ann Buddle; two daughters, Beth (Mark) Bevars and Jeanie Wiggins; four grandchildren, Emily and Maggie Bevars and Ashton and Leah Wiggins; a brother, Wes Buddle; two sisters, Barb Buddle and Chris (Barry) Griffith; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Allan was preceded in death by a sister in law, Linda Buddle.

The family would like to thank Dr. Creigh, Dr. King, Shannon and Susan from Hospice, and Pat and Ann for their dedication, kindness and care on this difficult journey.

Family will be present to receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00pm on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, April 3, at the funeral home. Prayers of Committal will follow in Grove Cemetery.
