Allan E. Gorton of Trumansburg, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 30, 2025 at Cayuga Medical Center surrounded by his loving family at the age of 89.
He was born on March 10, 1936, in Ithaca, a son of the late Walter and Ruby (Morgan) Gorton. Al graduated from Trumansburg High School in 1953 and furthered his education at SUNY Morrisville, laying a foundation for a successful career. He worked for Babcock Poultry for 25 years, focusing on poultry research before transitioning to New York State Parks and Recreation, where he eventually retired as park manager from Verona Beach.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Allan honorably served in the United States Marine Corps, showcasing his patriotism and dedication to his country. His spirit of service extended into the community, where he volunteered as a fireman and EMT for the Trumansburg Fire Department and Ambulance for 25 years.
Allan was most recently a devoted member of West Hill Community Church. His passions included golfing, hunting, and watching NASCAR races.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Sylvia Gorton; their sons, Ken Gorton, Kevin (Tammy) Gorton, Brian Gorton, and David (Dorothy) Gorton; grandchildren, Cheyenne (Justin) Woodard, Shane Owens, Chris Mcdowell, Ashley (Jack Beck) Gorton, Mackenzie, Haleigh, Justin, and Hunter Gorton, Vanessa Northrup-Johnson, Amber Gorton, Matthew (Kelly) Skeval, and Michael Gorton; and great grandchildren Kaisley and Lane. Allan was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Melvin (Lois) and Walter Gorton Jr.; and daughter-in-law, Sue Gorton.
A memorial service to honor Allan's life and legacy will be held at West Hill Community Church in Ithaca, NY, on April 26, 2025, starting at 11:00 AM.
