Alma S. (Selle) Coats

Alma S. Coats passed away on October 17th, 2022 at Bridges Cornell Heights at the age of 86.

Alma was born in Nashville, TN, the daughter of the late Fred E. and Alma (nee Curtis) Selle. Alma went to Peabody College of Nursing at Vanderbilt University. She married Dr. Roscoe Roy Coats on March 8, 1958. Alma served the Ithaca community for many as a Registered Nurse and a Health Educator.

During the years of 1964-1968, Alma and Roy were Methodist medical missionaries in India and Nepal.

Alma was an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church for many years. She also participated in the Ithaca Garden Club and P.E.O. Alma also enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Alma is survived by her children; daughter, Stephanie (Edward) Hammond and their children Sean and Lauren Hammond; her son, Steve (Fiona) Coats and their children Megan and Isobel Coats; her grandchildren in England, Amy and Max Coats; and several nieces and nephews. Alma is pre-deceased by her parents, her husband of 54 years Dr. R. Roy Coats Jr., her son Kim Bryant Coats, and her siblings, Fred C. Selle and LaNita Lipsit.

A memorial service to celebrate Alma’s life will be held at Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg NY on November 12th, 2022 at 10:00am.
