Amelia Harris, Martha

d. August 16, 2006

Martha Amelia Harris of 110 Aubles Dr., Trumansburg, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 16, 2006, at the age of 67.

Born at home on December 14, 1938 in the town of Ulysses, Martha was the daughter of William H. Harris and Amelia B. Chase Harris. Following her graduation from the Trumansburg High School in 1957, Martha spent most of her working years with the Tompkins County Courthouse as a clerk. For over 30 years she brightened the spirits of her fellow employees and everyone she came in contact with at the courthouse.

Martha's membership in the Calvary Baptist Church provided strength and comfort for her and allowed Martha an opportunity to share her love, kindness and generosity with the church family. Selfless by nature, Martha never refused to help someone in need. This generosity of spirit carried through to her deep affection for cats-both her own and any others who might pass through her yard.

She was also a member of the Trumansburg Senior Citizens, especially enjoying the day trips taken with the group. Martha traveled extensively with family and friends as well to Alaska, Hawaii, Massachusetts, and Maine, to name a few. Her zest for life will be sorely missed.

Martha was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Harris, a sister, Ida Emery and a nephew, William Harris. She is survived by four nephews, Mike (Pat) Harris, Rob (Charlene) Harris, James (Kim) Emery and Timothy (Ramona) Emery; three nieces, Debbie (Wayne McCarthy) Harris, Mary (Victor) Kelly and Sandra (Michael) Phillips and many cousins and friends.

The family will be present to receive friends at the Calvary Baptist Church, 5 Bradley St., Trumansburg on Sunday, August 20, 2006 from 2-4 pm. Services will also be held at the church beginning at 4:00 pm with the Rev. Timothy Hamilton officiating. Prayers of Committal, at Grove Cemetery, will immediately follow the church service.

The family asks those who wish to make a contribution in Martha's memory to kindly consider the Calvary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 413, Trumansburg, NY 14886 or the American Diabetes Association, 6390 Fly Road, 2nd Floor, East Syracuse, NY, 13057

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg. 1-888-534-5446.
