Arthur L Davis, age 60, of Newfield, entered into eternal peace and a life free of pain when he went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, December 13, 2008. He was surrounded by the warm and familiar presence of his loving wife and family.

Born in Binghamton, New York on June 11, 1948, Art was the son of Arthur and Virginia Davis. He graduated from Binghamton High School and Broome Community College.

A resident of Newfield for 20 years, Art honestly & proudly served as the Newfield Town Justice for over 10 years. He retired from the Ithaca City School District in 2005, having worked 10 years in the transportation department where he was well liked and respected by his co workers, students and their families.

As a person always willing to help others, Art volunteered for over 30 years with the Civil Air Patrol in Binghamton. He earned the rank of Lt. Colonel and received the esteemed Gill Robb Wilson award. He spent many hours teaching Aerospace Education and assisted in many search & rescue missions.

In addition to his parents, Art is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Phyllis Davis; three sons and their families: Brian Davis and his three children James, Jacob and Emily of Mt. Morris, Scott (Nicole) Bauer and their children Pierce and Mercedes of Vestal, and Timothy (Kristin) Bauer and their children Nicolaus, Vaughn and Trey of Warrington, PA. He is also survived by two brothers William (Carol) Davis of Middletown and Robert (Jeanne) Davis of Ridgely, TN and many nieces and nephews.

Art was an honest, loving and caring man and will be missed by all that knew him, especially his eight grandchildren and his faithful dog Ranger.

The family will be present to receive friends on Friday, December 19 from 2-4 p.m. at the Newfield United Methodist Church, 229 Main St., Newfield. A Memorial Service, also at the church, will be held Friday, December 19 at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Janice Downey officiating. Immediately following the memorial service, the family invites all present to a time of fellowship and refreshments in the church hall.
