William Eugene Asay, Sr., of 3006 Frontenac Rd., Trumansburg passed away at the Cayuga Medical Center on Friday, January 4, 2008 at the age of 91. Bill fought courageously while waiting for the last of his five boys to arrive. When his family circle was complete, Bill peacefully went on to be with his Lord.
Born on April 28, 1916 in Ovid, New York, Bill was the son of Fred Earl Asay, Sr. and Mollie Lentz Asay. During WW II he served in the Pacific Theatre with the U.S. Army, receiving an honorable discharge on December 19, 1945.
For 26 years Bill was employed by Ehrhart Propane Gas in Trumansburg. He was a member of the Arthur E. Bouton American Legion Post #770 and served as a volunteer for the Trumansburg Fire Department. Bill also knew his way around a barbeque pit and found himself assisting at dozens of chicken barbeque and clambake fundraisers. He would not say no to any organization that asked for his expertise. He also enjoyed gardening and playing cards.
Bill is survived by his wife, of 57 years, Marian A. Tuttle Asay; five sons, William E. Asay, Jr., James (Pat), Charles (Pat), John (Patti) and Roger (Katrina); four grandchildren, Chris Ferguson and Karen, Bryan and Stephanie Asay; one brother, Fred Earl Asay, Jr. (Irene F.) and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Rose and Charles Hendrix.
In keeping with Bill's wishes, no public services will be scheduled. In lieu of flower arrangements, the family asks that donations be made to the Trumansburg Fire Department, West Main Street, P.O. Box 418; Trumansburg, NY 14886 or to the Arthur E. Bouton American Legion Post #770, 4431 Seneca Rd., P.O. Box 456, Trumansburg, NY 14886.
