B. James Spicer Sr., formerly of Trumansburg, passed away at home in Freeville on Monday, July 25, 2016 at the age of 87.
Born on July 1, 1929, James was a son of the late Dewitt B. and Katherine E. (Wells) Spicer. After honorably serving his country in the Air Force, James became a baker for Home Dairy in Ithaca, where he was employed for almost 35 years, and then continued working part time at other local bakeries. While he enjoyed gardening and playing Santa Claus, James’ main hobby was re-building and refurbishing vintage erector sets as a proud member of the AC Gilbert Erector Society.
James is survived by his children, Douglas (Bonnie Holbrook) Spicer, Bruce Spicer, James (Mary) Spicer, Scott (Cheryl) Spicer, Linda (Dan) Hust, Debra (Jim) Thompson, Susan (Roger Cotrofeld) Spicer, Constance (Del) Runyon, Christine (Tom) Manheim; his son-in-law, Joe Wikoff; 21 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; his brother Adam Spicer and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth E. Spicer, and his daughter, Michele Wikoff, and by his sister, Mabel Chase.
In keeping with James’ wishes, services will be private for the family.
