Virginia B James of 10 Bald Hill Road, Ithaca, passed away at the Hospicare Residence in Ithaca, on Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at the age of 77.
Born in Ithaca on November 2, 1927, Virginia was the daughter of Herbert and Ruth (Parish) Brokaw.
With roots in Interlaken and Trumansburg, Virginia graduated from the Interlaken High School in 1945. She received a Bachelor's degree in Library Science from Denison University in Granville, OH and a Master's degree in Library Science from Syracuse University. Following her graduation from Syracuse, Virginia accepted a position as Public Librarian in Wellsville, NY, where she worked for a few years. Virginia most enjoyed her tenure at the Trumansburg Central School District where she shared her talents as a Librarian for 25 years, retiring in 1983.
Virginia was an active member of the Interlaken Reformed Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of their "Sharing & Caring" group. (She also enjoyed singing in various church choirs over the years). She was an avid collector of postcards, stamps and paper dolls.
The book clubs she belonged to allowed her to establish many dear friendships and satisfy her voracious appetite for reading. When her nose was not buried in a book, Virginia could often be found playing cards with friends.
Spending a few weeks each summer in Chautauqua brought immense joy and peace to Virginia's life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Roland James on August 4, 1999 and her two sons, Harold and Richard. Virginia is survived by one daughter, Anne Elizabeth James of Interlaken; one son, Alan Robert James of Danby; one daughter-in-law, Zosima James of Interlaken; one granddaughter, Nikki James of Baltimore, MD and one grandson, Brian James of Interlaken.
The family will be present to receive their friends at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg, on Friday, June 17, 2005 from 7 - 9 pm.
Services will be held at the Interlaken Reformed Church on Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 11:00 am with the Reverend Derek N. Vande Slunt officiating.
