Barbara Lockwood passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 29th surrounded by many loving family and friends.
Barbara was born June 8, 1941 in Ithaca, NY. Barb grew up in Ithaca, on “The Rhine” on Taber St. with her family until moving up onto Bundy Rd. in the 1950’s. Barbara was a graduate of Ithaca High School (the original High School to which is now the Dewitt Mall). She worked at Stimming Green Houses off of Floral Avenue (where the flood canal is now located) for many years, where she met the love of her life, “Agway” Joe Lockwood. Barb and Joe were married on October 2, 1960 and they built a house together in Jacksonville, NY to where they have lived to this day, and raised their children Peggy and JB. Barbara worked at Bool’s flower shop all of her life until she retired - mom always loved to be surrounded by flowers and friends.
Barb was many things to many people. Wife, mom, grandma, friend to name a few. Barbara is survived by her husband Joe, her children JB Lockwood (wife Dara) and Peggy Margaret Wilczewski (husband Kenneth). Her grandchildren Christopher Lockwood, Bradley (Boo) Lockwood and Alexandria (Weezie) Lockwood, their mother Deanna Nolan and Ben Vincent (Dara’s son). She is also survived by her sister Joan Halloran (husband Denny) and brother Stephen Lucas (wife April), as well as many nieces and nephews who make up Barb’s wonderful family.
The memories of mom with family and friends are overflowing and endless. Mom lead us through many wonderful gatherings in so many different places. Starting many years back with the pond in their backyard, to which mom and dad to this day enjoy watching the constant flow of wildlife that mother nature provides daily. The fun times around the pool having barbeques and enjoying the sauna, especially in the winter cooling off by jumping in the snow. The many vacations up to the Watauga Club up north where we shared many memories with all our family and many friends. To the cottage on Cayuga Lake, which was mom’s favorite place in the whole world to be, enjoying the beautiful summers with the endless amount of dinners, celebrations, water adventures and fireworks that mom enjoyed hosting at a moments notice - she was always ready at the dock for any boat that arrived to say hello. Words such as generous, joyous, forgiving and loving only begin to describe our mom - Barb opened her heart, her home and wine, and her dinner table to anyone and everyone, throughout her entire life.
Calling hours will be at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home on Saturday February 3rd from Noon to 2:00pm.
The family asks those that would like to make a contribution in Barb’s memory to kindly consider the Tompkins County SPCA, 1640 Hanshaw Road, Ithaca, NY 14850.
