Bernard L. Hankinson

d. April 29, 2014

Bernard Lee Hankinson (pronounced "Bernerd"), of Trumansburg passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014 in the home he built surrounded by the love of his family.

Known as Bernie to most, Grandpa Hanky to some, he is survived by his wife, his soulmate of 66+ years, Jean; his shining light, his daughter Linda and her husband Mark Dresser; Grandchildren Terri and Mike Knebel, Kim and Bryon Moore and his proudest achievements, his Great-Grandchildren; Nicholas and Joshua Knebel, Keegan and Kai Moore.

Born April 3, 1926 in Standing Stone, PA to Carrie Lee Hankinson, Bernie was predeceased by his mother and beloved sisters; Flora (Flo) Hankinson, Geraldine (Judy) Hankinson and Helena Wellin; his much loved pets, Shadow and Molly. Bernie was employed for 44 years by Cornell University in their Buildings and Grounds Division, and in his retirement, was an avid bowler and golfer. Most Trumansburgers will remember Bernie through the years from Saturday evening dinners at Richard's to Ron Don's or coffee and breakfast at Camels to the Falls Tavern. We, his family, will remember him as a man whose love for us knew no bounds. From the words of W.H. Auden: He was our North, our South, our East and West.

At Bernie's request, there will be no services. For those that want to honor his memory, we ask that you do so by spending time with family and friends as he loved to; enjoy a breakfast or dinner together and surround yourself in moments that become cherished memories.
