Betty Lou Langlois of Trumansburg and current resident of Bethany Manor in Horseheads, passed away surrounded by family and Bethany Chaplain Mary Ann Bernard on Friday, April 18, 2014 at the age of 86.
Betty is survived by three children, Nancy (Paul) Telech of Horseheads, Raymond (Lisa) Langlois of Trumansburg, and Linda (Brian) Harding of Jersey Shore, PA; four grandchildren, Stephen Telech, Adam (Naomi) Langlois, Daniel Hoyles, and Ashley Harding; five step grandchildren, Matthew and Travis Taylor, Callan Nagy, Nathan Chafee, and Becca Telech; one great grandson, Lawsen Langlois; one step great grandchild, Sophia Taylor; brother in law Dale Wallenbeck; a cousin, Harrison Raymond Jr.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Langlois Sr.; son Francis Langlois; a brother, Francis VanHouten; and two sisters, Joan Wallenbeck and Marilyn VanHouten.
Born on April 2, 1928, Betty was the daughter of the late Lem and Ruth (Scutt) VanHouten. She worked as an assembler for Morse Chain out of Ithaca. She later worked at the Trumansburg Elementary School as a cafeteria aide and was a waitress at the Redwood Restaurant in Trumansburg.
While living in Trumansburg Betty was very active in a variety of organizations including the American Legion Auxiliary, Trumansburg Seniors, former board member of Trumansburg Seniors Inc., and several bowling leagues. She was a devout member of the St. James Catholic Church and served on the Women’s Guild. While residing at Bethany Manor, Betty served as Vice-President on the Bethany Manor Resident Counsel.
Betty was a master at crocheting, knitting, and crafting. Her family and friends will cherish the many doilies, table cloths, afghans, and crafts she created over the years. Betty loved socializing with new and old friends. She enjoyed chatting with friends during bowling league, daily coffee hour at Juniper Manor, and touching the lives of many staff and residents at Bethany Manor.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the entire Bethany staff for all the love, care and support. Special thanks to the Skilled 2 Nursing Staff, Care First, and Physician Assistant Jodi Burke Cardinale for their love and support during the last week for Betty and her family. Our gratitude also to the entire Arnot Medical Staff, Dr. Roberto Mauri, and Stephanie Bush.
The family will be present to receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00pm on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Monday, April 28th at St. James Catholic Church, 17 Whig Street, Trumansburg. Prayers of committal will immediately follow in St. James Cemetery.
