Bruce Allen Newhart of Interlaken passed away at home on January 20, 2025 at the age of 82.
Bruce was born on August 10, 1942, in Ithaca, New York, a son of the late Brady and Florence (Cornell) Newhart. He dedicated many years of his career to the printing industry, working at Wilcox Press in Ithaca and he also owned Newhart's Mini Mart. In addition to these pursuits, Bruce contributed to the Trumansburg School District as a janitor, embodying a strong work ethic throughout his life. In his spare time he made barbeque sauce called Bruce Allen that he gave to family and friends.
A veteran of the United States Army, Bruce served from 1964 to 1966, and continued his commitment to service as a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 770 in Trumansburg.
Bruce had a passion for racing, often found cheering on his favorite drivers, Ritchie Evans and Richard Petty. He also enjoyed camping.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie Newhart; his children, Michelle (Donna Atkinson) Newhart and Scott (Kristina) Newhart; the mother of his children, Fran Harris Stoughton; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Bruce is also remembered by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Jo and Mike Michalski and their children; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Bruce was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Thelma (John) Onan, Betty (James) Wilson, Geraldine (James) Manheim, Brady (Gertrude) Newhart, Edward (Rita) Newhart, Marge (Ray) Stevenson, Connie Newhart, and Janet Smith.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00am on January 31, 2025 at the New York State Veterans Cemetery – Finger Lakes in Romulus.
