Edward C. Burr, age 90, of Interlaken, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2003 at the Alterra Sterling House in Ithaca.

He was a long time grocer in the Interlaken and Trumansburg communities, retiring after twenty-eight years with P&C Food Markets, most of which time was as the store manager of their Trumansburg facility. Prior, he worked in partnership with his father, William S. Burr of Interlaken, and as a machinist in Ithaca during World War II. Following his retirement he was employed as a field inspector for the New York Seed Improvement Cooperative.

Mr. Burr was active in community service for most of his life, including a number of years as a member, and as the Chief, of the Interlaken Fire Department. He was the head of the Civilian Defense Fire and Emergency Committee for the town during World War II.

Mr. Burr was also a very active member of the Farmerville-Union Masonic Lodge, having twice served as master and senior warden, including other offices as well. He had also served as high priest of the Interlaken Chapter 330, Royal Arch Masons, and grand master of ceremonies for the Masonic Grand Lodge of New York, as a staff officer for the Ontario-Seneca-Yates District. He received the dedicated service award from his home lodge in 1991, and fifty-year pin in 2001.

Mr. Burr was a long time member of the Interlaken Reformed Church, serving on its consistory for three terms, as treasurer for several terms, and as its trust officer.

He was a member of the Trumansburg Public Golf Course, having been an original member of the first committee and board of directors in 1969 that founded that facility as the Trumansburg Golf and Recreation Association. He also belonged to the Cayuga and Seneca Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, having been a member of the founding committee of that organization as well.

Mr. Burr is survived by his wife, Helen; son William C. (Carol) Burr of Sevierville, TN; son Carlton E. (Monika Roth) Burr of Ithaca, NY; daughter Marilyn B. (Sam) Guarnieri of Fairport, NY; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

In keeping with Mr. Burr's wishes, no calling hours have been scheduled. Private family interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Interlaken. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2003 at 1:30 PM with members of the Farmerville-Union Masonic Lodge officiating. Immediately following the service a reception will be held in the church hall for those wishing to pay their respects.
