William C. Glidden, 84, of 31 Strowbridge St.,
Trumansburg passed away on Thursday, September 28,
2006 in the home that he and his wife, Kathryn built
in 1950.

Born in Greeley , Colorado on April 18, 1922, Bill was
the son of William A. Glidden and Isabel Pattee
Glidden. The family lived in Colorado and throughout
the Northwest as the Santa Fe Railroad transferred
William A. from one job to another during the early
years of the Great Depression. The family moved east
in 1935, traveling by car on the "Blue Highways" over
the Rockies and across the Plains to the family farm
in Interlaken.

Bill was no stranger to work as he put in long hours
on the farm from the age of 13 until his graduation
from the Interlaken High School in 1940. After
graduation he worked with the construction crew that
built the Seneca Ordinance Depot and the internal
railway system, and later as an ammunition train
Conductor. In 1946 Bill accepted a position with
Ithaca Gun. In 1955 he was hired as an
Experimentalist in the Entomology Department at the Ag
College, working at the Insectary and at the Freeville
Experimental Farm. Bill retired from Cornell 1983.

When they were not working, Bill and Kay enjoyed their
cottage on Cayuga Lake. Following retirement, he and
Kay wintered in Palm Bay, FL where Bill continued to
indulge his interest in fishing.

Bill was preceded in death by Kay on July 2, 1995. He
is survived by son James W. (Carol) Glidden of Ithaca;
daughter, Ann S. (Timothy) Sprague of Twisp,
Washington; son Thomas J. (Sophia) Glidden of
Trumansburg; seven grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; brother, Howard (Kay) Glidden of
Woodburn, OR and many nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service will be held at Grove Cemetery in
Trumansburg on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at 1 PM.
