Caroline Julia Jackson of Trumansburg passed away at Hospicare on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at the age of 80.
Julie (as she was known) was born in Ithaca on May 22, 1938, a daughter to the late Avery and Caroline (Strobeck) Gentle. She attended Ithaca High School and graduated from Cornell University in 1960, then received her MA in Teaching from Columbia University in 1963. She worked as an English teacher for the NYCPS system and then later had a career as a technical editor. She also had her own freelance editing and publishing business for several years, in addition to pursuing her hobby as a proficient writer of short stories and essays. She volunteered at Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts, and enjoyed tutoring English as a Second Language, both in Ithaca. She also actively supported her local community libraries.
Julie is survived by her sister JoAnn Gentle of Rochester, NY, her brother Avery Gentle of Tucson, AZ and her three children, Gillian Jackson-Champlain of Croton-on-Hudson, NY, Toby Jackson of San Francisco, CA, and Timothy Jackson of Northvale, NJ. She is also survived by her three grand-children, Katie & Emily Champlain, and Alba Rose Jackson.
In keeping with Julie’s wishes, there will be no public services.
