Trumansburg

Cdr. Normand Lee Peckenpaugh USN, 96, passed away at home in Trumansburg on July 20, 2003. Norm was born on July 29, 1926, in Salem, South Dakota.  He was preceded in death by his wife Jean and son Lee. He is survived by his son Alan Peckenpaugh, daughter Jayne (Kim) Moller, grandchildren Kacy Peckenpaugh, Abigail Moller and Kristian Moller.

Norm enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944, serving through three wars for 30 years completing his duty as aide to the Surgeon General of the Navy. He traveled extensively, to every continent, as an officer and later for his second career in the hospitality industry. He graduated from Cornell University and returned to serve the Hotel School in various capacities. He retired several times but was continually called back to provide his expertise and advisement.  Norm acted as Dean of Administration, General Manager of the Statler Inn, Director of Executive Education and Director of Procurement for the building of the Statler Hotel & J. Willard Marriott Executive Education Center.

While Norm dedicated years of service to his country and Cornell University, his greatest joy was his grandchildren Kacy, Abigail and Kristian. They were very fortunate to have his love and support.

The family wishes to express gratitude to Cheryl Garrett and Jessica Parker who provided him with care and comfort in his final year as he resided with his son, Alan. It was Norm’s wish that there be no calling hours or open funeral.
