Charles R. Wright

d. December 23, 2013

Charles “Roy” Wright of Trumansburg passed away at home surrounded by his family on Monday, December 23, 2013 at the age of 84.

Roy was born in Grover, Pennsylvania a son of the late Charles and Florence (Jackson) Wright. He was employed as a chef at Taughannock Farms Inn for nearly 40 years developing delicious recipes. The New England clam chowder he made, and that is still made today, is so wonderful that even travelers from New England commented on the quality.

As a child, Roy traveled to Cleveland with his father and this trip turned Roy into a lifelong Cleveland Browns fan. He enjoyed spending time on his boat, snowmobiling, bowling and earned a 300 game buckle during league bowling. Roy took great pride in his yard and spent many hours mowing and gardening.

Most of all, Roy adored his family. The moments when he was catching up with one of his children, holding a grandchild or great- grandchild on his lap, having a quiet moment with his wife of 65 years, or playing a rowdy game of cards with his family and friends were his most beloved memories.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Blegen, Dr. Lessinger, Dr. Hesson, Hospicare, and all the additional doctors and nurses that have been so caring and compassionate over the past several years to both Roy and his family.

Roy is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Yaw Wright; seven children, George (Linda) Wright, Daniel (Yvonne) Wright, Jeannie Wright, Tom (Barb) Wright, Dedra Mowry, Michael (Shantel) Yaw, and Fred Yaw; 26 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; siblings, Rose Mayo, Clarence Wright, Cora Ann Aumick, J. Earl Wright, and Betty (Bill) Williammee; amazing neighbors, Rob (Ann) Cochran and their three children; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by a daughter, Tonya Yaw Edge; and four siblings, Bob Wright, Letha Dean, Jim Wright, and Kenneth Wright.

The family will be present to receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00pm on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at First Baptist Church, 4443 Seneca Road, Trumansburg. A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 1:00pm, at the church on Saturday.

The family asks those who wish to make a donation in Roy’s memory to kindly consider Hospicare, 172 E. King Road, Ithaca, NY 14850 or the Trumansburg Volunteer Fire Department.
