Clara L. Thompson formerly of Trumansburg and Ovid passed away at Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility on Monday, June 9, 2014 at the age of 92.
Clara was born in Ithaca on November 5, 1921, the oldest child of the late Gordon and Blanche (Wilson) Payne Sr. She was raised in Newfield and attended school there. Soon after school Clara met Robert E. Thompson and the two married making their home in Robert’s hometown of Trumansburg.
During World War II Clara went to work at Sampson in the munitions department. Following the war, she raised her family and was a homemaker. She enjoyed working with her hands, mastering the art of both crocheting and knitting.
Clara is survived by a daughter, Diane (Roland) Emmons of Interlaken; a son, Robert E. (Sharon) Thompson Jr. of Odessa; four grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Edie Rozelle and Doris Hixson; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Thompson Sr. on March 8, 1980; and four brothers, Wallace, Gordon, Harvey, and Richard Payne.
A Graveside Service will be held at 3:00pm on Friday, June 13, 2014 at Grove Cemetery in Trumansburg.
