Clella S. Morey, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on April 4, 2015 at age 93 at Seneca View Nursing Facility, Montour Falls. Born November 20, 1921 in Ithaca, Clella spent the majority of her life in Ithaca where she proudly raised her family and worked at Sage Infirmary, GLF, and then retired from the Plant Pathology Department at Cornell. She was an avid bird watcher, spent time after retirement traveling to flea markets and antique shows with her husband Chuck, and acquired a vast collection of antique ceramic birds. Clella always ensured that everyone was invited to holiday dinners at the Morey’s home, and that everyone had plenty to eat. She will always be remembered for her kind ways and gentle manner.
Clella is survived by her children: Nancy Morey (Bill Brower) of Oxford, NY, Robert Morey of Douglasville, GA, Janet (Glen) Griffin of Trumansburg, and Karen (Doug) Wheeler of Trumansburg; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-children, and sister-in-law Patricia Smith. Clella was predeceased by her parents George and Leona Smith, husband Charles Morey, brother Clinton Smith, and sister Juanita Smith.
A special thank you goes out to the caring staff at Seneca View Nursing Facility, and to Claire Bridge of Ithaca, for the kindness and attention they showed to our mother.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Tompkins County SPCA or Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. A remembrance luncheon will be held at the First Assembly of God Church on 197 Bostwick Road on April 10th at 12:30pm. All are welcome to come and share memories.
