Clifford D. Yaw

d. November 17, 2013

Clifford Dawson (Cliff) Yaw of Trumansburg passed away at Geneva General Hospital on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at the age of 69.

Cliff was born on September 9, 1944, the son of Fred and Rosalie (Wright) Yaw. After graduating from Trumansburg High School in 1962, Clifford joined the United States Navy where he served for several years until being honorably discharged.

Cliff owned and operated his well drilling business, Yaw’s Well Drilling, for many years. He enjoyed serving his community as a member of the Hector Town Board for numerous years.

A jack of all trades, Cliff could work on and fix anything; he was always our ‘go to guy’ when it came to fixing computers. He enjoyed spending time outdoors camping, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed playing euchre and making fudge by his “scientific method”. He could be found Saturday and Sunday morning’s at Falls Restaurant having breakfast with the “Men’s Coffee Club.” Cliff was an all-round good man who loved his family, friends and community.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the staff of both the Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse and the Living Center South in Geneva for their care during these past two years, as well as the emergency department of the Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca.

Cliff is survived by his wife, Jean Uhrovcik Yaw of Trumansburg; three children, Chrystal Yaw of Newfield, Raymond Yaw, and Andrew Yaw of Trumansburg; step son from his first marriage, Larry Kirkland; grandson, Zachary Dawson Yaw, mother, Rosalie Wright Yaw Mayo of Trumansburg; five siblings, Rose (Dave) Yaw Williammee Smith of Ithaca, John (Carolyn) Yaw Jr. of Fruitland Park, FL, Sandra Yaw Ward (Dale Clapper) of Cuyler, Emma Yaw Lovejoy of Trumansburg, and Yolonda (Robin) Yaw Cleveland Johnson of Newark Valley; brother in law, Sam Ward of Trumansburg; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, John Frederick Yaw; and step father, Richard Joseph Mayo.

The family will be present to receive friends from 11:00 to 1:00pm on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 1:00pm at the funeral home. Prayers of Committal and Military Honors will follow in Jones Cemetery.

The family asks those who wish to make a contribution in Clifford’s memory to kindly consider the Living Center South, Att. Julie Krebbs, 196 North St., Geneva, NY 14456 or the American Diabetes Association, Memorial Program, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
