Daniel Bakker, of Lodi, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at the age of 85.

Born in Midland Park, New Jersey on May 31, 1927, Daniel was the son of the late Peter and Sadie (Kleiwerda) Bakker. Entering the United States Navy on April 23, 1945, Daniel served his country during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

While living in Midland Park, New Jersey, Daniel was an active member of the Volunteer Fire Company, Ambulance Corps, and Midland Park Christian Reformed Church where he was a Deacon and taught Sunday School. After moving to Lodi in 1995, Daniel became an active member of the Interlaken Reformed Church where he also served as a Deacon.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Irene Bakker; son, Daniel G. (Georgeanne) Bakker of Interlaken; daughter, Kathi A. (Donald) Bakker of Virginia; two grandchildren, Rebecca Firman and Sarah Matthews; three great-grandchildren, Caleb and Ethan Firman, and Courtney Matthews; a brother, Wilbert Bakker of MA; a sister, Milly Schuit of NJ; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by his siblings, Jacob, Peter, Wilsie, Sylvia, and Arthur Bakker, and Beatrice Schuit.

The family will be present to receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00am on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at the Interlaken Reformed Church, 8315 Main Street, Interlaken. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00, at the church, on Tuesday, with Pastor Jason Fulkerson officiating. Prayers of committal and a Military Honors Tribute will immediately follow in Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
