Daniel A. Swift

d. May 22, 2007

Daniel A. Swift of 151 E. Main St., Trumansburg passed away unexpectedly at the Cayuga Medical Center on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at the age of 79.

Born in Cuba, New York on July 10, 1927, Dan was a son of Stanton and Ruth (Totten) Swift. He served in the US Navy during WWII, receiving an honorable discharge on July 17, 1946. Dan firmly planted his roots in Trumansburg 40 years ago when he accepted a position with Eastern Breeders in Ithaca. Dan considered himself fortunate to raise a family in Trumansburg. After their children graduated, Dan and his wife, Ann, operated the White Gazebo Bed and Breakfast.

A tall man with a big heart, Dan's handshake and sincere "how have you been" was said in a way that resonated with compassion. Visiting with friends and family was not only a time of sharing life's events; but for Dan it was an opportunity to learn from others. This interest in another's point of view coupled with a voracious appetite for books allowed Dan to converse on a wide variety of topics.

Dan was a member of the Sampson Military Museum, Corning Museum of Glass and Arthur E. Bouton American Legion Post #770, Trumansburg.

The devotion between Dan and his wife, Ann E. (Conroy) Swift in their marriage of 56 years was unconditional. This loss is devastating to Ann as the couple was inseparable. Dan is also survived by one son, Randy (Bette) Swift of Jacksonville, FL; two daughters, Sharon (Herb) Austic of Romulus, NY and Christine Swift (Christopher Turner) of Falls Church, VA; two brothers, Rod Swift of Cuba, NY and Larry Swift of San Francisco, CA; two sisters, Kate Harbeck and Alice Resch of Cuba, NY; six grandchildren, Katelin and Brianna Swift, Shawna and Danny Austic and Corydon and Afton Swift Turner and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Danny and two brothers, Stanton and George Swift.

In keeping with Dan's wishes, services will be private.

Those who wish to remember Dan in the form of a contribution are asked to kindly consider the Trumansburg Ambulance Fund, PO Box 418, Trumansburg, NY 14886 or the Ulysses Philomathic Library, PO Box 705, Trumansburg, NY 14886.
