David A. Benedict

David A. Benedict of Trumansburg passed away peacefully at home on May 25, 2024 at the age of 78. He was surrounded by his loving family during his final days.

He was born in Romulus, New York at the Sampson US Naval Training Station to the late Harold and E. Alberta (nee Saxton) Benedict. David graduated from Horseheads High School and played multiple sports. He excelled at basketball and went on to play for Dartmouth College. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth and MBA from Columbia University. He had a career in business and sales in the Ithaca area and raised his kids in Trumansburg. David was a loving and proud father. He was a kind man with a good sense of humor. In retirement, David enjoyed following his grandson’s sports and UConn women’s basketball.

David is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Maree Benedict; their children, Carrie Benedict and Jeremiah (Kristen) Benedict; brother, Lee (Judy Versenyi) Benedict; and grandsons, David and John Benedict. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, June 1st from 10:00 to 11:00am at Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 11:00am, at the funeral home. Burial will follow Grove Cemetery.

The family is very thankful to Dr. Bael, Dr. Vohra, the Cayuga Medical team, and Hospicare for their support. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests people consider a donation in David’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
