Donald “Don” L. Bennett, lifelong resident of Trumansburg, passed away at home on Friday, January 5, 2018 at the age of 86.
Don was born in Ithaca on June 4, 1931, a son of the late Levi and Anna (O’Brien) Bennett. He was a graduate of the Trumansburg High School Class of 1949 and attended Morrisville College, graduating with his Associates Degree in 1951. He joined the United States Army in 1953 and served until 1955 when he was honorably discharged. Don took a position at Cornell University at Clark Hall, retiring as a supervisor after 42 years.
Don was an active life member of the American Legion Post 770 in Trumansburg and member of the Knights of Columbus. Throughout his life, Don enjoyed playing horseshoes, bowling, and roller skating.
Don is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marge Bennett; three sons, Brian (Frank) Bennett, Chris Bennett, and Mikel (Shelley) Bennett; five grandchildren, Sean, Ryan, Kayla, Christina (Patrick), and Mikel II; five great grandchildren; brother, Tom Bennett; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brother and sister in law Robert (Connie) Bennett; sister and brother in law, Audrey and Bob Ball; and sister in law, Joyce Bennett.
A Memorial will be announced at a later date.
