Dorothy May (Yaw) Wright

Dorothy May Wright, of Trumansburg, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at the age of 92. She was surrounded by her loving and devoted family.

Dottie was born in Trumansburg on August 15, 1930, the daughter of the late Washington and Lena (Grant) Yaw. Dottie was a well-known and beloved baker who shared her gifts for many years working at Taughannock Farms Inn. She could be found “popping” dinner rolls by hand and baking all kinds of delicious pies and treats. These talents were also present in her home as she enjoyed sharing her meals at family gatherings whenever possible. Dottie was a dedicated caregiver to her family, friends, and the residents she cared for in their Family Care Home on Searsburg Road. She was a hard worker who became a ruthless card and dice player in her retirement. She enjoyed her gardens and the flowers, but will be most remembered for always having an open door and welcoming anyone in for a cup of coffee, cookies, and a game of cards.

Dorothy is survived by her children, George (Linda) Wright, Daniel (Yvonne) Wright, Jeannie Wright, Tom (Barb) Wright, Dedra Mowry, Michael (Shantel) Yaw and Fred (Tammy) Yaw; sisters, Mary Backner and Alice (Larry) Thayer. Along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews; special friends, Rob and Ann Cochran. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Charles “Roy” Wright; daughter Tonya Yaw Edge; and siblings, George, Jim, Fred and Floyd Yaw.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dottie’s aides Vanessa, Chrystal, and Lori; Dr. Blegen, and to Hospice for the wonderful care they gave her.

The family will be present to receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00pm on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Trumansburg, 4443 E. Seneca Road, Trumansburg. A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 2:00pm at the church.
