Edith M. Foster of Trumansburg passed away at Guthrie Corning Hospital on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at the age of 93.

Edith was born on July 5, 1924 in Lodi, New York a daughter to the late Samuel and Winifred (Evan) Fox. She attended a one room school in Lodi through 8th grade and graduated from Trumansburg High School in 1942 and married Edward Foster in 1944. She and Ed bought their home on Waterburg Road in 1958 and lived there for over 50 years. Working several jobs over the years, Edith worked at Goodman’s Device Shop during World War II, Randall’s Department Store in Trumansburg, Camp House, WCW Cleaners in Ithaca, Trumansburg Elementary School as a baker and cook, and finally, at the Campus Store at Cornell University.

Following her retirement from Cornell in 1985, Edith and her husband, Ed dedicated more of their time to their cabin in the Adirondacks. The cabin in the mountains served as the perfect backdrop for many family gatherings which were times that Edith cherished. Edith also enjoyed knitting and sewing. She was a member of the Searsburg Community Church, Searsburg Grange, 39er’s Camping Group, Trumansburg Senior Citizens, and Podunk Ladies Group.

Edith is survived by two daughters, Arlene (Ed) Snyder and Marie (Jim) Whitaker, both of Trumansburg; four grandchildren, Kim Wooden of Apalachin, David (Bry) Snyder of Ithaca, Mike (Kelly) Whitaker of Trumansburg, and Jeff Whitaker of Pennsylvania; six great-grandchildren, Tyler and Travis Wooden, Heather and Marissa Whitaker, Madison Snyder, and Cheyenne Whitaker; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Foster in 2009; a one grandson, Eddie Snyder; and sister, Margaret Sears.

The family will be present to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Friday, July 14, 2017 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. A Funeral Service will begin at 10:00am on Saturday, July 15, at the funeral home. Prayers of Committal will follow in West Lodi Cemetery.
