Edna J. Carl

Edna June Fleet Veasey Carl of Ithaca passed away at Cayuga Ridge surrounded by family on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the age of 91.

Born in Leolyn, Pennsylvania on August 16, 1923, Edna was the daughter of the late Charles and Cora (Fleming) Jackson. She worked as an assemblywoman at NCR in Ithaca for 23 years before retiring. Her greatest accomplishment was raising and caring for her family. Edna’s fresh baked bread and other baked goodies drew many children in the Jacksonville community to her home. Spending time at home canning, pickling, crocheting, and knitting were some of Edna’s favorite past times. She truly was a jack of all trades and found ways to solve any issue she encountered. Her immediate and extended family will miss her dearly.

Edna is survived by five children, Simeon (Polly) Jackson, Robert (Dorothy) Fleet, Stephen (Cecelia) Fleet, Ann Swartwood, and June (Doug) Voorheis; son-in-law, Roger (Bonnie) Bullivant; three step children, Lloyd (Carol) Carl Jr., Thomas (Ann) Carl, and Caroline (Ralph) Foulkrod; 19 grandchildren; 8 step grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; 13 step great grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; and 2 step great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by her first husband, Arthur Fleet; second husband, Tom Veasey; husband, Lloyd Carl; daughter, Janet Bullivant; great granddaughter, Nicole Bozick; son in law, Lynn Swartwood; and a sister Grace Kastenhuaber.

The family will be present to receive friends from 11:00 to 1:00pm on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 1:00pm at the funeral home. Prayers of Committal will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Newfield.
