Edwin A.  Wright

d. October 7, 2014

Edwin Almon Wright of Trumansburg passed away at Arnot Ogden Hospital on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at the age of 83.

Ed was born in Brooktondale on June 11, 1931, a son of the late Almon and Edna (Coon) Wright, who settled on a farm near Trumansburg. Ed was given the nickname of 'Jake' by his father. When Ed got frustrated with himself, he would say "What are you going to do now, Jake?!" Ed joined the Air Force and served proudly as an Air Policeman from 1949 to 1953, stationed in Texas, Newfoundland and Florida and from 1956 to 1965 stationed in Syracuse, NY, Ontario, Canada, Jacksonville, Florida, France and finally at Andrews Air Force Base where he was tasked with guarding Air Force One. Ed was honorably discharged for medical reasons and was proud to tell others he served for 12 years, 10 months and 22 days!

Ed returned to Trumansburg with his family where he worked farming, construction and trucking. In 1974, Edwin became Owner Operator of Frank Wright and Son with his wife Hazel - a farm, tire and implement business in Perry City. Ed and Hazel were there for 30 years, serving the local farmers and business owners before retiring. Edwin was a life member of the South Seneca Sportsman Club, a 38 year member of the American Legion Post 770, member of the “Adirondack Hunters” annual “hunting” trip since 1968 and a member of the Frostproof, Fl Community Club where he spent his winter months. On Ed’s 28th birthday his daughter Juanita was born and they both took great pride in being able to share their birthdays together. Ed enjoyed logging and cutting firewood, crafting gifts for his family and friends with his scroll saw and mowing lawn, everybody's lawn. When other retired men purchased the cool sports car, Ed purchased his zero turn radius mower! Edwin has many friends throughout the community and so many of the younger generations will simply remember him as 'Dad' or 'Grandpa'.

Edwin is survived by his wife of 59 years, Hazel Wright of Trumansburg; four children, Mark (Kim Brant) Wright of Clyde, Juanita (Bob Wech) Wright of Trumansburg , Julia (Bruce Boatman) Williammee of Ovid, Benson (Stacy) Wright of Trumansburg; 14 grandchildren, Riley Miracle, Zach Fulkerson, Arielle Wright, Jesse, Justin, and Jonathan (Abigail) Dougherty, Jasmine Shay, Mellissa (Ryan) Sorenen, Brandy (Chris) Besemer, Rachael (Fred) Ebel, Brandon and Alex (Katie) Morgan, Jadyn and Gavin Wright; Seven great grandchildren; Micayla, Garrett, Avery, Savannah, Lucas, Sophia and Lucinda: two unborn great grandchildren; Six siblings, Charles “Pete” (Sally), Richard (Verna), Bruce (Linda), Steve (Susan), Bob (Carol) Wright and Marian (Earl) Isaacs; and many nieces, nephews and extended family, and “adopted son”, Bryan Kenjerski. In addition to his parents, Edwin was preceded in death by a grandson, James Dougherty and sister, Alma Compton.

The family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00pm on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, October 13, 2014 at Ness-Sibley Funeral Home immediately followed by interment with Military Honors in Jones Cemetery.
