Elsie Vann

d. September 20, 2018

There is strength in living, strength in aging, and strength in leaving this world. Elsie Vann proved to have the courage and zeal in all of these phases, experiencing more than most in her 103 years.

Born in Langdon, NH on May 26th, 1915, Elsie moved to the Willow Creek community as a young adult and married Paul A. Vann (predeceased). She is and will always be the Matriarch of Willow Creek in our hearts. She was a longtime member of the Jacksonville Community United Methodist Church where she gained fellowship and community.

A farmer’s wife, she took care of everyone, always making sure they were well fed and attended to. Most dearly, her four daughters, Patricia Johnson of Ithaca, Judy Hauss (predeceased), Paula Batkin (Robert) of Lakeland Fl., and Joyce Basilius of Ithaca; Grandchildren: Joy Hardbattle, Janelle Batkin-Hall, Tem Basilius, Emily Anderson and Tai Basilius; Great grandchildren: Naomi Hardbattle, Leo and Alana Anderson and Silas and Sawyer Basilius; her sister Louise Ford and several nieces and nephews.

The family is thankful that she remained in her own home that she built with her husband and raised her family, leaving this world to reunite with loved ones on September 20th, 2018. She was surrounded by family in her bedroom listening to one of her favorite hymns, In the Garden. The family is appreciative of her long-time aide, Karen Dawson for her love and support.
Everyone will age and need a little extra care, so please take a moment to appreciate those who have lived through decades past, learn from them and give them a smile.

Services will be held on Saturday, September 29th at 4:00 pm at the Jacksonville Methodist Church with light refreshments following.
