Emma L. (Yaw) Lovejoy

May 9, 1949 — February 7, 2021

Trumansburg

Emma Yaw Lovejoy of Trumansburg passed away at Cayuga Medical Center surrounded by her three children on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at the age of 71 after a courageous battle with metastatic cancer.

Emmie was born in Trumansburg on May 9, 1949, a cherished daughter to John and Rosalie (Wright) Yaw. Family and friends were her passion and greatest source of joy. She enjoyed hosting weekly volleyball picnics and euchre parties. Numerous memories were made while camping with loved ones. Emmie always treasured her weekly “Girl’s Day” when she would gather with her mom, sisters and friends to play card games and marbles (her favorite game). She was an active member of the Trumansburg Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints and served in many roles including Sunday School teacher and working with the children. She also represented the church at the Trumansburg Food Pantry.

Emmie also served 30 plus years as a Family Care Provider for the Broome Development Center and will be remembered by two of her family members, Helen Acor and Rhoda Winfield.

Emmie will be remembered as ‘a gentle soul’ as she always saw the good in others. She was loving, giving, caring, kind, selfless…she was someone we should all try to emulate.

Emmie was a devoted mother to her children Melissa (Bill) Winnick, Kim Lovejoy, and Mike (Beth) Lovejoy; grandchildren, Will, Emily, Sabrina, Tyler, William, and Ryan. She is also survived by her mother, Rosalie Wright Yaw Mayo; sisters, Rose (Dave) Yaw Williammee Smith, Sandra (Dale Clapper) Yaw Ward, and Yolonda (Robin) Yaw Cleveland Johnson; brother, Ted (Elaine) Mayo; brother-in-law, Sam Ward; and many nieces, nephews, and large extended family. Emmie was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Lovejoy; father, John Frederick Yaw; step-father, Richard Mayo; and brothers, Clifford and John Yaw.

Friends and family are invited to say goodbye to Emmie at Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg from 11:00am to 12:00pm on Saturday, February 13, 2021. Afterwards the family will have a private service and burial. All Covid-19 protocols will be in place; masks, social distancing and occupancy limitations. Please attend only if you’re willing to adhere to the  guidelines as set forth by NYS.

We want to express our appreciation to all the doctors, nurses and staff that provided care for Emmie at Cayuga Hematology Oncology Associates and Cayuga Medical Center for their loving care.
