Erma F. Marquart, of Elcor Nursing Home, Horseheads, formerly of Trumansburg, passed away at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira on Sunday, March 22, 2009 at the age of 96.
Born on August 25, 1912 in Mecklenburg, New York, Erma was the daughter of Grant and Helen (Ward) Fletcher.
For many years Erma graced the Trumansburg United Methodist Church with her pleasant smile and gentle manner. Before moving to Horseheads to be near family, Erma was proud to be the eldest active member of the church choir.
In 1945 Erma was installed into membership of Trumansburg Star Chapter #479 Order of the Eastern Star. She held the honored position of Matron for the Trumansburg chapter several times and served as Associate Grand Warder of the state of New York in 1986.
In addition to her parents, Erma was preceded in death by her husband Loren V. Marquart in 1974. She is survived by one son Clair (Nora) Marquart of Horseheads; one daughter Gwen (Richard) Stone of Horseheads; four grandchildren Thomas (Kerry) Stone, Jeffrey (Tamara) Stone, Lorrie VanZile, and Denise (Rich) Rubin; and six great-grandchildren Brendan, Siobhan, Alanna, Delaney, Tori, and Caden.
A Memorial Service will begin at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at the Trumansburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Losey officiating. Fellow Members of the Trumansburg Star Chapter #479 will perform an OES tribute service. Following the church services, Prayers of Committal will be held at Grove Cemetery.
