Eunice L. Schroeder Beardsley of 46 N. VanDorn Rd., Ithaca passed away at Cayuga Medical Center on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at the age of 85.
Born in Ithaca, on April 28, 1923, Eunice was the daughter of the late Mervyn and Nellie (Jenks) Schroeder. She was a 1941 graduate of Ithaca High School and was married to Elvin Beardsley on March 17, 1944. She worked at Willard Straight Hall for 7 years making salads and sandwiches. Eunice and her husband owned and operated Al's Bakery in Trumansburg then Ithaca for a total of 12 years. The bakery mainly served Cornell University and the Coop Food Store. She continued to work at Oddfellows doing laundry and sewing for 5 years. She was an active 4-H member and leader and in 1940 was the NYS Garden Champion. Eunice picked thousands of four leaf clovers over the years and passed them on to many of her family and friends. She loved staying in contact with people and was a pen pal to hundreds of people across the country. Eunice loved her cat "Coco Puff" and dog "Baby Cuddles" very much.
Eunice is survived by two sons, Talmadge Beardsley of Ithaca and Curtis G. (Linda Vann) Beardsley of Ithaca; two daughters, Shirley (John Anderson III) Beardsley of Ithaca and Gene Bentley and Melody A. Beardsley Bentley of Ithaca; a sister, Marguerite Smith of Trumansburg; three granddaughters, Sheila, Tammie, and Brenda; two great- grandsons, Gregary and Jason; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elvin Beardsley on August 7, 1980; two sisters, Evelyn Miller and Gertrude Emerson; one brother, Mervyn Schroeder Jr.; and a niece, Martha Miller.
Services were held at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg on Sunday, December 14, 2008 at 2:00 pm.
